How to Give

The works East AfriCare supports are diverse, but also needful in each area of service. There are several ways you may participate with us in these efforts.

The most helpful to the work would be to contribute to East AfriCare generally in order to allow us to apportion funds as the needs are the greatest at the time. This would be for the Deaf Schools, Water Well Drilling Program, and Medical Clinic.

At present, the Water Well Drilling Program is just beginning work on a 60 well project that is to be completed in the next year. Historically, those who choose to participate by sponsoring a well would provide $5,000, though the actual costs are well above this. Rig maintenance costs are a constant variable and are somewhat unpredictable. We now have a new rig which had to be modified for the specifications of the wells in Ethiopia. Those were unexpected costs. Our older rig requires significantly more repairs than the new rig will for some time.

Our five Deaf Schools operating costs are approximately $275,000 annually. In the past we have had a student sponsorship program. At present, though, the security situation in the country has precluded the travel and collection of pictures of students, etc. Our present student population of about 900 students yields an approximate annual cost per child of $305.

The Medical Clinic has daily operating costs that are presently covered by its operational income. But we are arranging the donation and purchase of medical equipment to fill a 40-foot container for shipping to Ethiopia. This will require shipping costs of roughly $25,000 and customs/duty costs of $50-100,000.

Drink Water to Give” Team

Hey kids and families, help support deaf and other kids in Ethiopia. When in a restaurant, order water instead of a soda or tea. If you’re whole family participates, that will save $10 to put in the “Help Ethiopian Kids bucket per meal (for a family of 4). That’s $520 per year for one meal per week! 10 families would provide school funds to educate 17 deaf children or one well to provide water for 2,000 people for years.)
